'Chicken with Prunes' is Marjane Satrapi's second comic book, following 'Persepolis.' In the form of an oriental fairy tale, Satrapi tells the story of her uncle, the renowned Iranian musician Nasser Ali Khan. After his wife rashly breaks his beloved tar, Nasser Ali lies down to die, because life without music loses all meaning for him. The comic describes eight days, which include memories of his life, the future of his children, and an encounter with death. Satrapi has a keen sense of reality; she skillfully intertwines the spirit of the old and new East in her graphic novels, so the themes of her works touch hearts in every corner of the world.
In 2005, Chicken with Prunes won the main prize at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, and in 2011, its film adaptation was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
