The Idiot (Idiot)

Dostoevsky conceived and wrote his novel The Idiot (1868) in Switzerland, the birthplace of the great educator Rousseau. It's therefore fitting to recall his contemporary, Voltaire, author of The Simpleton, a book that became one of the first attempts to depict the 'ideal man' in this imperfect world. 'The main idea,' Dostoevsky wrote of his novel, 'is to depict a positively beautiful man. There is nothing more difficult in the world...'
Isn't it precisely for this reason that Dostoevsky revealed The Prince of Christ to the world, so that we would not forget: 'Compassion is the most important and, perhaps, the only law of existence for all mankind?'
