Fun Home is a candid graphic memoir by American artist Alison Bechdel, after whom a test for assessing works of art for gender bias is named. Bechdel paints honest and unbiased pictures of her childhood and adolescence, discusses the complexities of self-discovery and sexual identity, and describes her relationship with her closeted gay father. In her eyes, the family story takes on the character of a tragicomedy.
Fun Home was included in the list of best books of 2006 by the New York Times, The Guardian, and Entertainment Weekly, and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Will Eisner Award, Lambda, GLAAD Media Award, and Stonewall Book Award. In 2013, a theatrical production of the comic book premiered on Broadway. She won the Tony Award for Best Musical, and her screenplay was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
