Irmina (Irmina)
33.93£
In the mid-1930s, Irmina von Bedinger, a young, ambitious German woman, travels to London to pursue a profession and gain independence. There, she meets Howard Green, one of the first black students at Oxford, and their desire for an independent life brings them together. However, Irmina and Howard's relationship is short-lived: having lost her last source of income and, consequently, the ability to remain in England, she is forced to return to her homeland. The approach of war and the loss of contact with Howard shatter Irmina's dreams and force her to adapt to societal norms in order to survive the oppression of a criminal ideology. Based on true events, the graphic novel 'Irmina' is a poignant drama about the choice between personal freedom and social status. In it, German artist Barbara Yelin beautifully conveys the oppressive atmosphere of Nazi Germany and compassionately addresses the fates of ordinary Germans caught in the middle of these tragic events.
