Childhood Danielle Steel grew up in the family of entrepreneur John Schulein-Steel and the daughter of Portuguese diplomat Norma de Camara Stone-Reis. Danielle spent her childhood in France with her parents. She often attended dinner parties and receptions, which allowed her to get to know the world of the rich and famous from the inside. Her parents divorced when the girl was seven. After that, she went to New York with her father, while her mother remained in Europe. She was raised entirely by John Schulein. Even in childhood she began writing short stories, and as a teenager she started writing poetry. First steps In 1965, when Danielle was only 18, she married banker Claude Eric Lazard. She continued her studies at university and began writing her first novel.
