Aleksey Yurchak

Aleksei Vladimirovich Yurchak (Eng. Alexei Yurchak) is a Russian and American anthropologist. He is a professor of anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on Soviet history and post-Soviet transformations in Russia and the post-Soviet space.

He was born and raised in Leningrad. By his first education, he is a physicist. While working as a physicist, he was a manager at AVIA.

In 1997, he received a PhD in cultural and linguistic anthropology from Duke University. He is a professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Berkeley, as well as an associate faculty member in the graduate program of the Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance at the University of Berkeley.
