Audur Ava Ólafsdóttir

Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir is an Icelandic writer, playwright, and professor of art history.

She was born in Reykjavík in 1958. She graduated from the Sorbonne. At present, in addition to her creative work, she teaches at the University of Iceland.

Her literary debut was the novel Upphækkaða land, first published in 1988. The novel Rigning í nóvember was awarded the Thomas Guðmundsson Literary Prize and translated into English and German, and its sequel, Afleggjarinn, was translated into French, Dutch, Italian, and Spanish.

Ólafsdóttir is a renowned writer and the recipient of seven literary awards. In 2014, Ólafsdóttir wrote a play that was later successfully staged at the National Theatre of Iceland.
