The fairy tale 'Old Man Hottabych' was published in 1938 and has since become one of the most beloved children's books. Several generations of boys and girls in our country have enjoyed reading about the adventures of a genie who traveled from the ancient times of King Solomon to the Soviet Union of the late 1930s. It doesn't matter that the book was written almost a hundred years ago, because the story of how pioneer Volka Kostylkov fished an ancient jug from the river and released a genie from it is truly kind, funny, and captivating. It has been translated into many languages, including English, German, Czech, Bulgarian, and Chinese. Its author, Lazar Iosifovich Ginzburg, who wrote under the pseudonym L. Lagin, wrote several other books, but it is thanks to 'Old Man Hottabych' that his name will forever remain in the history of children's literature.
