David Keenan
David Keenan is a Scottish writer and novelist, author of the bestseller The Esoteric Underground of Britain about the history of the music groups Coil, Current 93, and others. He was born on April 21, 1971, in Scotland. Keenan ran a music shop in Glasgow, a distribution company, and the record label Volcanic Tongue. He worked for The Wire, covering new experimental rock, noise, folk, industrial, and psychedelic music. He is the author of the term “hypnagogic pop.”
Keenan’s debut novel, This Is Memorial Device, received the Collyer Bristow Prize and was nominated for the 2017 Gordon Burn Prize. His second novel, For the Good Times, won the Gordon Burn Prize in 2019. His third book, Xstabeth, received mixed reviews from critics. His fourth novel, Monument Maker, was published by White Rabbit in 2021.
