Clason, George Samuel — the author of the book *The Richest Man in Babylon*; founder of the map company Clason Map. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, he served in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War. At the beginning of his publishing career, he founded the map company Clason Map in Denver, Colorado, and published the first road atlas of the United States and Canada. In 1926, George Samuel Clason published the first in a series of his essays on thrift and financial success, using the form of parables from ancient Babylon. These works became widely distributed in banks and insurance companies. Millions of people read them. *The Richest Man in Babylon* became a modern classic of economic literature. The sources Clason used were ancient cuneiform tablets found in the Mesopotamian region and dating from the Babylonian era, in which one of the ancient scribes recorded the wisdom of Babylonian merchants, moneylenders, and ordinary businessmen of that time. This information was also confirmed by the British Archaeological Association, which stated that Clason repeatedly turned to them for help in his research, submitting disconnected fragments of ancient texts that he himself could not translate.
