Yevgeny Nikolayevich Ponasenkov is a Russian publicist specializing in historical revisionism, television presenter, and director.

He acted in television series in supporting roles, was an organizer of cultural events; he wrote publicistic works on the history of the Napoleonic Wars, which provoked a mixed reaction from the Russian historical community.
He was born on March 13, 1982, in Moscow, into a military doctor’s family; his mother worked as an engineer.
He received his primary education at Moscow School No. 1287 with advanced study of English. According to Ponasenkov himself, he began to take an interest in the Napoleonic era and the Patriotic War of 1812 at the age of 9, and claims that while still at school he studied special literature and collections of documents in the library of the Borodino Battle panorama museum.
From 1999 to 2004 he studied at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University, specializing in the history of the Napoleonic Wars under the supervision of E. I. Fedosova. He gave presentations at academic conferences. According to Ponasenkov, he did not defend his graduation thesis because a concert was scheduled for the day of the defense, and therefore he does not have a higher-education diploma.
Since 2001 he has taken part in academic conferences, published scholarly and publicistic articles, and also delivered lectures and interviews on the topic of the Napoleonic Wars.
In 2004 he published the book The Truth About the War of 1812, in which he blamed the Russian side for triggering the conflict and expressed the view that the Russian command, including Emperor Alexander I and Field Marshal Kutuzov, was inept and irresponsible.
