Gilbert Elizabet

Elizabeth Gilbert is an American writer. She became known worldwide in 2006 after publishing her autobiographical book Eat, Pray, Love. The book remained on the New York Times Best Seller list for 158 weeks. In 2010, the film of the same name was released, starring Julia Roberts.

Elizabeth Gilbert was born on July 18, 1969, in Waterbury, Connecticut. Her father was a chemical engineer, and her mother was a nurse. Together with her sister, writer and historian Catherine Gilbert Murdock, Elizabeth grew up on a small family Christmas tree farm in Litchfield, Connecticut. Elizabeth Gilbert reads a great deal. Her interests are wide-ranging and include The Wizard of Oz, the books of Charles Dickens, and Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations. The family grew up in a region with no neighbors; they did not have a television or even a record player. As a result, they all read a lot, and Gilbert and her sister entertained themselves by writing short books and plays.

In 1991, she graduated from New York University. After graduation, she traveled around the country for several years, working as a cook, waitress, and sales clerk, in order to write about it later. Her experience working as a cook on a tourist ranch was reflected in the short-story collection Pilgrims and in the book Last Man in America.

In 1993, Esquire published the story Pilgrims in its “Debut American Writer” column. Until then, the magazine had never published a previously unpublished author. An exception was made only for Elizabeth Gilbert and Norman Mailer, a Pulitzer Prize winner. After that, Gilbert wrote articles for several major magazines (SPIN, GQ, The New York Times Magazine, Allure, Real Simple, and Travel + Leisure).

In 1997, GQ published the article “The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon,” written by Gilbert after working as a bartender in a bar in the Lower East Village. The film Coyote Ugly was based on this article. In 1997, Gilbert’s first book was published, the short-story collection
