Gro Dahle

Gro Dahle

Gro Dahle is a well-known Norwegian writer and poet. Dahle became best known to readers in her native Norway and other countries through her books written for children. Gro Dahle was born on 15 May 1962 in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Her literary debut took place in 1887, when a book of her poems titled Audiens (The Audience) was published. Since then, Dahle has written more than 30 books in various genres, including a series of illustrated books for children that she created together with her husband, the illustrator Svein Nyhus. Gro Dahle has been awarded several state prizes for her work and for her contribution to the development of Norwegian literature. In 1999, she took part in the Bergen International Festival as the festival’s official poet. In 2002, she was awarded the Brage Prize in literature for her work Snill (Kind), an illustrated children’s book. In 2003, her book Sinna Mann (Angry Man) was named the best children’s book by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture. This book tells the story of a little boy who faces domestic violence. The style in which Gro Dahle writes is somewhat naive and full of imagination. In her works, the writer mainly focuses on the themes of psychological problems and human relationships. At present, Dahle lives and works on the island of Tjøme in Vestfold County, 120 km south of Oslo. Gro Dahle also lectures on creative writing at universities in Norway and Sweden. Russian readers may know Gro Dahle from the book What the Hell, or the First Tooth Celebration (Djeveltanna), which was published in Russian in 2008.
