Igor Shevchuk
Igor Mikhailovich Shevchuk is a writer, poet, screenwriter, and lyricist. He is a member of the Writers’ Union and the Union of Journalists.
He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Leningrad State University. Since the 1980s, he has been known as a children’s absurdist poet whose verses are published in the magazine Tramvay. From 1978 to 1985, he worked as a correspondent and editor of the literary page in the children’s newspaper Leninskie Iskry, and as a freelance contributor to the Central Television program Spokoynoy Nochi, Malyshi! and to the children’s-youth and educational editorial departments of Leningrad Television, where he created about 50 entertainment programs and a dozen comic staged television plays. From 1985 to 1987, he was an actor in the theater Eksperiment. From 1987 to 1999, he compiled, served on the editorial board of, and was a regular contributor to the children’s magazines Khrushcha i kompaniya (editor of the games and puzzles section), Iskorka, Pioner, Murzilka, Tramvay, Balamut, Kucha mala, Veselye kartinki, Koster, Sharovaya molniya, Kukumber, and others.
He is the author of the music and libretto for stage productions at the theaters Eksperiment and Teatr na Liteynom, the Saint Petersburg Children’s Music Hall, and the show theater Samantha; the author of more than 100 children’s songs performed on television and radio by children’s ensembles and soloists, including the children’s group Neposedy; the author of scripts, and sometimes music, for many advertising audio and video commercials; and the author of scripts for the television series Streets of Broken Lights
