Irina Yukina
An expert in women’s and gender history and sociology. She wrote three monographs: History of Women in Russia: the Women’s Movement and Feminism (1850s–1920s). Materials for a Bibliography (St. Petersburg: Aleteya, 2003); Women’s St. Petersburg. An Historical and Local-Study Guide (St. Petersburg, 2004, coauthored with Yu. Guseva); and Russian Feminism as a Challenge to Modernity (St. Petersburg: Aleteya, 2007), which the American journal Kritika called an encyclopedia of Russian feminism. She founded and headed the Department of Gender Studies at the Nevsky Institute of Language and Culture for 11 years. She taught the courses “Introduction to Gender Studies” and “History of Russian Feminism.”
