Christopher Vogler

Christopher Vogler
Vogler was born in 1949 in Missouri. He studied filmmaking at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He worked at Disney, Fox 2000, and Warner Bros. studios. He taught at the USC School of Cinema-Television. He heads Storytech Literary Consulting, founded in 1999. Like George Lucas, Vogler was inspired by the works of mythology scholar Joseph Campbell. Vogler was especially impressed by the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Drawing on Campbell’s work, Christopher Vogler created his legendary seven-page memo for Hollywood screenwriters, A Practical Guide to The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Vogler later expanded and developed this memo in the book The Writer’s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers. As a screenwriter or producer, he took part in such films as The Lion King, Fight Club, The Thin Red Line, P.S. Your Cat Is Dead, and Shout at the Devil. Christopher Vogler is a recognized master of screenwriting; he advises staff at leading Hollywood studios and conducts master classes around the world. His book is included in the list of required reading for everyone involved in filmmaking, and filmmakers and writers from various countries attend his lectures and seminars.
