Agnès Martin-Lugand was born in 1979. As is often the case, she dreamed of becoming a writer from childhood, but chose a different profession for herself. A refined one, though less exalted: a child psychologist. Agnès worked for six years in a clinic in Rouen, but left practice after the birth of her son. While caring for her little child, the young mother managed to find time to write her first novel, Happy People Read and Drink Coffee. After approaching several publishing houses and receiving rejections, Martin-Lugand decided to go her own way. After all, this is the 21st century — the age of informational accessibility, when not only can a reader obtain any book, but any book can also find a reader. At her own expense, Agnès published an electronic version of the novel online. On the very first day, the book entered the top one hundred best-selling titles, and just ten days later it became the number one bestseller. Two months later, the Lafon publishing house offered to release a printed edition of the novel. A year later, Happy People Read and Drink Coffee was published in 20 countries around the world.
