Veronique Massena about herself:

"I was born in Burgundy in 1970 and grew up surrounded by books and brushes. The granddaughter of a ceramicist, the daughter of two teachers of French (classical French), a watercolor artist and an amateur singer, I remember spending whole Sundays listening to music, reading, drawing, writing, and illustrating books... Later, writing attracted me, but at the same time it frightened me. How would I dare add my tiny voice to the voices of Boris Vian, Albert Camus, Émile Zola, Guy de Maupassant, Gustave Flaubert... all those I devoured?"
