Mike Omer

Mike Omer is an Israeli author of crime fiction, thrillers, horror, and fantasy.

He was born in Israel to a family of psychologists. When he was six years old, his family moved to Boston for a year so that his father could earn a doctorate, and as a result of the move Omer learned to speak English fluently. Later, the family returned to Israel and settled in Hod HaSharon.

From an early age, Omer showed literary talent and was an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy.

Omer wrote and published his first book at the age of 16. As the author said in an interview with Forbes.ru, it was a humorous fantasy inspired by Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Discworld).

At 18, Omer went into the army, where he served for three years in the artillery corps. As the author admitted, his service made his writing style darker. After that, Mike launched the Loof Columns website, where he wrote satirical pieces.

By education, Mike Omer is a programmer, and for several years he even worked on video game development. For example, he wrote the script and developed the worlds and characters for the fantasy game Little Failure. The plot follows 8-year-old Ramirez Hernandez, who is searching for eternal happiness as a gift for her mother.

At the same time, Omer continued writing books and translated them into English to enter the international market. He gained worldwide recognition for the Zoe Bentley series. Immediately after its release in June 2018, the debut novel in the series, Inside the Killer, outranked novels by J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and James Patterson on Amazon’s bestseller list. Omer admitted that he came up with the ending in the shower. Before writing the series, Omer studied the cases of Ted Bundy, who attacked young women, and Richard Chase, who drank the blood of his victims. The series was continued with two more books — Darkly Dreaming (2019) and Through the Eyes of the Victim (2020).
