Malorie Blackman

Malorie Blackman is a British writer and science fiction author.

Malorie Blackman was born on February 8, 1962, in London. In her school years, she dreamed of a career as an English teacher, but over time she wanted to become a systems programmer. Blackman earned a higher technical education diploma from Thames Polytechnic and graduated from the National Film and Television School (NFTS).

Malorie married Neil in the 1990s, and in 1995 they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth.

Her first book, "Not So Stupid," was a collection of science-fiction stories and horror tales aimed at a teenage audience. It was published in November 1990. Since then, Malorie has written more than 60 children's books, including novels and short story collections, as well as plays and scripts for television projects.

Blackman's works have received more than 15 awards. Her scripts formed the basis for some episodes of the long-running children's television series "Byker Grove." Her novels "Pig-Heart Boy" and "Whizziwig" also served as the basis for television productions. Malorie's books have been translated into more than 15 languages, including Spanish, Welsh, German, Japanese, Chinese, and French.

The "Crosses and Noughts" series ranked 61st on the list of the most-read books according to the "Nation's Favourite Books" poll conducted by the BBC in 2003. The work received more votes than Charles Dickens's "A Tale of Two Cities," some of Terry Pratchett's stories, and William Golding's "Lord of the Flies."

Blackman lives with her husband and daughter in Kent. In her free time, she likes playing the piano, gaming, and writing poetry.
