Mary Alice Monroe
Mary Alice Monroe is a bestselling author known for her works of fiction that explore the parallels between nature and people. Many of her novels address environmental issues. For example, The Beach House and Swimming Lessons focus on the plight of injured sea turtles.
Mary currently lives in South Carolina, and many of her novels are set in the southern United States, where stories about “strong Southern women” are told.
Monroe has received numerous awards, including the 2008 Award for Writing Excellence from the South Carolina Center for the Book, the 2014 South Carolina Award for Outstanding Literary Achievement, the 2015 Southeast Florida Award for Outstanding Service, the RT Lifetime Achievement Award, and the International Book Award for Environmental Fiction. Mary Alice Monroe was inducted into the South Carolina Academy of Authors in 2018.
