Nikolai Vladimirovich Epple (1977) is a Candidate of Philological Sciences, a literary scholar, and a researcher of historical memory.

He graduated from the Classical Department of the Faculty of History and Philology at RSUH and completed postgraduate studies at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He specializes in the history of Western European literature and is a translator of C. S. Lewis and G. K. Chesterton.

He teaches in the Faculty of Political Science at Shaninka (Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences).

His research interests include Plato’s philosophy and the historical-literary legacy of C. S. Lewis.

He is the author of numerous publications on historical memory in Vedomosti, InLiberty, Colta, Republic, Arzamas, and other outlets. He is a recipient of the Enlightener Prize.

He has translated from modern and ancient languages and authored studies devoted to the history of Western European literature and the philological legacy of the Inklings. He translated the three major historical-literary monographs by C. S. Lewis: Allegory of Love, A Preface to Paradise Lost, and The Discarded Image.

He is the author of the book Uncomfortable Past: Memory of State Crimes in Russia and Other Countries, and a recipient of the Enlightener Prize.
