Oleg Khlevnyuk

Oleg Vitalyevich Khlevniuk was born in 1959 in Vinnytsia, and graduated from Vinnytsia Secondary School No. 2 and Vinnytsia State Pedagogical Institute.

Khlevniuk is one of the leading researchers of the Stalin period in Russian history. He holds a Doctor of Historical Sciences degree (1996), is a professor at the Department of Russian History of the 20th-21st Centuries at Lomonosov Moscow State University, chief specialist at the State Archive of the Russian Federation, leading research fellow at the International Center for the History and Sociology of World War II and its Aftermaths at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and corresponding member of the Royal Historical Society (United Kingdom).

Under his editorship, a number of collections of documents on Soviet history of the 1920s-1960s were published. His books on the history of the Stalin period and archival publications have been published in English, German, French, Italian, and other languages, and have received prestigious Russian and international awards.
