Roman Mikhailov
Roman Valeryevich Mikhailov is a Russian mathematician, writer, as well as screenwriter, theater director, and film director. He is a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a recipient of the Russian Academy of Sciences medal for young scientists, the Moscow Mathematical Society Prize, and a von Neumann Fellowship at Princeton, and the author of more than 60 scientific papers and one monograph. He is a specialist in homological algebra, homotopy topology, and group theory. He was an invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematics (2016) and the International Congress of Mathematicians (2022). He is a recipient of the Andrei Bely Prize and various film awards.
In 2001, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University.
In 2003, he defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation.
Since 2004, he has worked in the Department of Algebra at the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as a senior researcher. He is the author of more than 25 works, including a monograph (coauthored with I.B.S. Passi).
His research interests include homological and homotopical algebra, K-theory, group theory and group rings, and category theory. He received the 2005 Russian Academy of Sciences Prize and Medal for Young Scientists, and the 2006 Moscow Mathematical Society Prize for a series of works on group theory and homological algebra. He actively collaborates with the mathematical community in India.
