Sally Hines
Sally Hines is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of Leeds, where she headed the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies from 2009 to 2014. She specializes in issues of gender, the body, sexuality, and intimacy. Her research on transgender phenomena focuses on the intersections and differences in gender, sexual, and bodily aspects. She has published a number of articles on gender variance and identity, as well as four books, the latest of which is titled Gender, Society and Culture. Hines is a cofounder of the interdisciplinary network of gender studies centers Sexgen.
She is the lead researcher of the three-year international project “Pregnant Men: An International Study of Male Transgender Experience and Reproductive Practices,” which involves scholars from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Poland, and Italy.
