Barnford Sheyla
Sheila Burnford (Sheila Philip Cochrane Burnford) was an English writer. Sheila Burnford was born in Scotland on May 11, 1918. Her childhood was spent in various parts of the country. She attended St. George's School, and later the Edinburgh and Harrogate Ladies' College. In 1941, Sheila married Dr. David Burnford, and the couple had three children. During the Second World War, Sheila Burnford worked as a volunteer ambulance driver. In 1951, the writer emigrated to Canada, where she settled in the city of Port Arthur. Her best-known work is The Incredible Journey; the book was especially successful after the release of the film of the same name. In 1961, the book received the award for the best Canadian children's book of the year. The writer died of cancer in a small village in Hampshire at the age of 65, on April 20, 1984.
