Warsaw — Krochmalna Street, 92 — Orphans' Home. Once upon a time, Blumka, Dr. Korczak, Mrs. Stefa, and two hundred children lived here, including: Zygmus, who gave life to a silver fish; Reginka, whose stories could brighten the darkest night; Pola, who grew peas in her ear; Chaimek, whom ants brought to court; Siskin, who helped so diligently by carrying coal in an enamel pot; and a mouse, for whom crumbs fell from the sky. Blumka wrote it all down in her diary, and when she ran out of words, she added drawings.

Iwona Chmielewska — world-famous Polish artist and writer. She lives and works in Toruń, where she also teaches at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Nicolaus Copernicus University.
Her illustrated books have received numerous awards and have been published in South Korea, Japan, Germany, and other countries.
