Boris has always wanted a pet, but his parents won't hear of it. An opportunity to fulfill his cherished dream unexpectedly presents itself when a neighbor asks Boris to look after her pet, Babette. But what kind of animal is Babette? She has thick yellow fur, walks on two legs, loves potato chips, scary stories, game shows, and, most insanely, she can talk! Boris has to hide Babette in his room and, to keep her from getting sad, build skeletons and throw a scary party. Such a commotion is hard to hide from the adults for long. But what will happen to Babette then?
In her new comic, German artist Tanja Esch explores what it's like to be different and how to find your place in the world. The book 'Boris, Babette and the Scary Skeletons' has been awarded prestigious awards: the Berthold Leibinger Prize (2022), the German Youth Literature Prize (2023) and the Max & Moritz Award in the category 'Best Children's Comic' (2024).
