Twelve-year-old Andre and his great-uncle, an old sea dog nicknamed the Pirate, are forced by circumstances to live together, growing accustomed and attached to each other, and then, on an old, patched-up yacht, they set off from Norway to Trinidad across the unpredictable Atlantic Ocean—for the sake of saving a man.
