"Siddhartha" is a gem of prose by Hermann Hesse, in the pages of which the writer's journeys through India and his interest in Eastern religions are reflected.
The setting is India during the time of Siddhartha Gautama - the founder of one of humanity's most profound and wise religions - Buddhism. In this small book, Hesse managed to explain its essence to Europeans, creating an ideal system - a set of interconnected rules - on how to live, how to correct one's mistakes, and how to find one's true "self".
This parable is worth reading and rereading not for the plot and in search of new knowledge, but for the deep understanding of the world and the feeling of unity with those around us that it provides.
The edition also includes the allegorical tale "Journey to the Land of the East".

Hermann Hesse was a Swiss writer and artist of German origin.

He was born on 2 July 1877 in the town of Calw in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. As the son of Christian missionaries, he began studying theology in Maulbronn in 1891, but abandoned it a year later, becoming first a mechanic and then a bookseller. In 1912 Hesse emigrated to Switzerland and in 1923 became a Swiss citizen.

The writer achieved literary fame with the novel Peter Camenzind (1904). The success of this work allowed Hesse to devote himself entirely to literature.
