On Fifth Avenue in New York City stands a small building, unremarkable among others. Its residents can't move a step without their elevator operator, Deepak, who operates the mechanical elevator—a wondrous, antique piece of machinery. The carefree life of the building's residents ends when Deepak's colleague, the night elevator operator, falls down the stairs. Deepak's nephew, Sanjay, unexpectedly arrives in New York from Mumbai and saves the day by taking his place. No one suspects his true identity... Neither does Chloe, who lives on the ninth floor.
