Charles Bukowski is an iconic American writer of the 20th century, the author of more than forty books, including novels, poetry, essays, and short stories. Despite the sometimes shocking naturalism, his texts are full of lyricism, even a peculiar sentimentality.
The novel 'Hollywood' is based on the true story of Bukowski's work on the screenplay for the film 'Little Drinks,' which was directed by Barbet Schroeder in 1987. The leading roles were played by such stars as Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway, and the prototypes of the characters are still easily recognizable: Francis Ford Coppola, Jean-Luc Godard, Werner Herzog, Norman Mailer, and others.
