The name Odd means 'blade's edge' and brings good luck.
But during that endless, gloomy winter, Odd's luck turns completely against him. He has only an axe, a memento of his Viking father, and a crippled leg, a reminder of his own misadventures. And so one morning, before dawn, Odd dresses warmly, steals a side of smoked salmon, takes an axe and a crutch, and sets off into the snowy forest...
