Survivalist James Hillcoat prepares for the end of the world, building a shelter in the basement of his London home and stocking up on supplies. However, over time, the basement begins to feel unreliable, and after a falling out with his wife, he takes his eight-year-old daughter, Peggy, without her knowledge to an abandoned cabin in the middle of a remote forest somewhere in Germany. Thus begins the story of their survival. The story of the last two people on earth, as Peggy believes, since her father has convinced her there is no one left in the world… Nine years later, Peggy returns home to her mother, but her attempts to uncover what happened in the forest lead to new mysteries.
