Dan Brown is an American writer, journalist, and musician.

Dan Brown was born on June 22, 1964, in New Hampshire (USA). His father was a mathematics professor and his mother was a professional musician. Dan grew up amid the paradoxes of science and religion. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Amherst College, then moved to California, where he began his career as a songwriter, musician, and performer, releasing several CDs of his recordings.

In 1993, Dan Brown returned to New Hampshire and began teaching English at Amherst College.

Blythe Brown, Dan’s wife, an artist and art historian, collaborated with him in research and accompanied Dan on his numerous research trips. In 1995, together with her, Dan published the book 187 Men to Avoid: A Survival Guide for the Romantically Frustrated Woman.

In 1998, the writer, who had always been interested in philosophy, the history of religion, cryptography, and secret societies, published his first thriller novel, Digital Fortress, which quickly became a bestseller among Internet users. The novel explores the fine line between civil liberty and national security.

His subsequent works were created at the intersection of the thriller, the intellectual detective novel, and the mystery novel. In 2000, the intellectual conspiracy thriller Angels and Demons was published.

In 2001, the thriller Deception Point was released, raising the issue of morality in politics and national security.

In 2003, the adventures of Professor Robert Langdon from Angels and Demons continued in The Da Vinci Code — on the very first day after publication, it sold 6,000 copies.

During its first week of sales, The Da Vinci Code topped the New York Times bestseller list and rose to the top of The Wall Street Journal and San Francisco Chronicle bestseller lists. Later it became the No. 1 hit in all major bestseller rankings in the country. In May 2006, the film adaptation of The Da Vinci Code was released, and in 2009 the film adaptation of Angels and Demons was released.

In September 2009, the novel The Lost Symbol was published, lifting the veil of secrecy on America’s Masonic past.
