Duglas Adams
Douglas Noël Adams was an English writer, playwright, and screenwriter, the author of humorous science fiction works. He is known as the creator of the famous book series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Adams earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English literature. He began publishing while still a schoolboy. His creative work was not limited to writing alone. Adams appeared in episodes of the sketch show Monty Python, wrote scripts for BBC2, and composed music.
1957 - moved from Cambridge to Brentwood, Essex. 1959-1570 - Primrose Hill School 1962 - publication in a school magazine 1965 - publication in a boys’ magazine 1971 - entered St John’s College, Cambridge 1974 - received a bachelor’s degree in English literature 1974 - began working with television mid-1970s - difficulties finding work 1978 - first broadcast of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on radio. The first series in the planned cycle of four radio stories 1978 - wrote the episode The Pirate Planet in the Key to Time story arc of the television series Doctor Who 1979 - co-wrote scripts for two episodes of the television series Doctor Snuggles 1979 - co-wrote scripts for four episodes of the City of Death series of the television series Doctor Who 1980 - second radio series of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was released 1979-1992 - The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy appeared in the book form familiar today. 1980 - the long process of adapting The Guide for film began 1981 - six episodes of the series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy aired on BBC Two 2005 - the film The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was released in theaters. Douglas Adams did not live to see it.
