Julie Kagawa
Julie Kagawa is an American writer.
She was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting, really, ever happened to her there. So, at the age of nine, she and her family moved to Hawaii, where she soon discovered an entire world filled with large predatory insects, colonies of geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent most of her time in the ocean, where reef sharks, jellyfish, and eels kept their distance from her.
If she was not swimming, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the dismay of her teacher, who found novels under her math textbook during class. Her love of reading led her to write very scary and horrible stories, complete with colorful illustrations that shocked her unfortunate teachers. The mountains of fairy tales disappeared over time, but her passion for writing remained long after she finished school and had to get a real job.
To pay the rent, Julie worked in various bookstores for many years, but found that the managers did not approve of reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: dog training. Julie worked as a professional trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors. As soon as her first book went on sale, she quit and began writing full-time.
