Edvard Rezerford
Born in Salisbury, he studied at Cambridge University and Stanford Business School (part of Stanford University). He worked in political research, in the book trade, and in publishing. After several attempts to turn to writing, in 1983 he left his job in the book trade and returned to his parents’ home to work on his first historical novel, Sarum, based on the history of his native city. Four years later, the book was published and became an international bestseller. Rutherford’s five subsequent novels were also internationally successful; in each, the centuries-long fate of a particular place is traced through the use of both historical and fictional characters.
