Peggy Guggenheim was an American art dealer, patron, and collector of 20th-century art. The daughter of the wealthy industrialist Benjamin Guggenheim, who died on April 15, 1912, on the Titanic. Her uncle was the American industrialist and collector Solomon R. Guggenheim. Peggy Guggenheim was married to the Surrealist Max Ernst. She supported the work of Jackson Pollock, a representative of Abstract Expressionism. She recounted her turbulent life in the autobiography Confessions of an Art Addict. Peggy Guggenheim lived in Venice until her death in Camposampiero near Padua, Italy. Her ashes are buried in the garden (later the Nasher Sculpture Garden) of her home, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, next to her beloved dogs.
