Heather Rose

Heather Rose
Australian writer Heather Rose was born in 1964 on the island of Tasmania, where she lives to this day. Her novels have repeatedly been shortlisted for prestigious literary awards and have received a number of prizes in the field of fiction for children, adults, and young adults. Rose has worked in a wide range of genres, from detective fiction to science fiction. Together with Danielle Wood, she created, under the pseudonym Angelica Banks, a series of children’s books that enjoyed international success. The plot of the novel “The Museum of Modern Love” — the writer’s seventh book and her first novel published in the United States — is based on Rose’s personal experience: for several months, she attended Marina Abramović’s performance at the Museum of Modern Art in order to observe the reactions of visitors. She became acquainted with Abramović’s work in 2005 at an exhibition in Melbourne, where the iconic 1988 performance “The Lovers” was presented: Marina and her then partner Ulay walked toward each other along the entire length of the Great Wall of China. That was when Rose decided to write a novel dedicated to Abramović. For the sake of art, the artist overcomes physical pain each time. For Rose, who has suffered from arthritis since childhood, literature became such a means of self-overcoming — the act of writing literally causes her unbearable suffering. polyandria
