Ragim Dzhafarov

Ragim Dzhafarov was born on August 21, 1992, in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 1996, his family moved to Russia. He graduated from the State University of Management with a degree in public relations.

In 2019, the author’s second novel, Mark and Ezra, was published. The work became the subject of legal proceedings. Ragim was accused of insulting the feelings of believers. “All the characters representing the Catholic Church are exclusively negative. The pontiff himself, that is, the Pope, is portrayed in the same light,” the plaintiff stated.

In 2020, the novel Sato was released; it was among the finalists for the NOS Prize and received the Readers’ Choice Award as a result of online voting.

In 2020, a short film titled Expert, directed by Galina Maslennikova, was made based on a story by Ragim Dzhafarov. In 2021, the film Expert was included in the competition program of the Street Cinema Festival and became the winner of the Dream film festival in the category “Best Directing.”

In August 2021, the fourth novel, The Painting of Sarhan, was published.

In 2021, according to Galina Yuzefovich, the novel Sato was nominated for the New Horizons literary award.

In November 2021, by jury decision, the novel Sato reached the final of the New Horizons award together with works by Yevgeny Vodolazkin and Kirill Fokin.

In 2022, the novel His Last Days was published; it was shortlisted for the Lyceum Prize (2023) and won the Yasnaya Polyana Award.

In July 2024, Alpina. Proza published Ragim Dzhafarov’s sixth novel, Song of Cid, and in August of the same year the book series Tower of Silence began.

At present, all of Ragim Dzhafarov’s books are published by Alpina. Proza, which releases time-tested bestsellers as well as new works by Russian and foreign authors.
