The young witch Kiki has turned thirteen, which means it's time to start an independent life. She needs to choose a city where there are no other witches, find a job she enjoys, and learn to cope with difficulties. And a thirteen-year-old girl faces plenty of challenges, even if she weren't a witch. Finally, on a clear night of the full moon, Kiki flies off to a new life. She decides to start it in the large seaside town of Koriko, where witches are barely heard of. Now she needs to find a place to live and earn a living through some witchcraft, of which Kiki has only mastered flying on a broomstick and chatting with her black cat, Jiji. But the solution comes quickly—after all, people can always use a quick delivery service! And so Kiki gets down to business. Eiko Kadono wrote her first stories about Kiki in 1985. Inspired by her success and numerous literary awards in Japan, she continued the story of the young witch – to the delight of fans, among whom was the great Hayao Miyazaki, who based Kadono's books on his animated masterpiece in 1989. And in 2014, a full-length feature film was released.
