Ivan Andreevich Krylov (1769-1844) was a poet, writer, translator, and the most famous Russian fabulist. Krylov's fables are familiar to everyone from childhood, and his apt lines have long since become proverbs. Written with a remarkable sense of humor, they instill in us honesty, courage, integrity, and hard work. They contain not only morality but also folk wisdom.
