Two comedians, Laura Lane and Ellen Hawn, reread children's fairy tales and discovered that they contain outrageous stories: princes kiss sleeping strangers without consent, one woman services a family of seven men, wolves stalk their victims in the forest, and an abusive stepmother bullies her young stepdaughter. The stories are also replete with violence, and all the heroes are cisgender white men and women. We were raised on these texts, and they were adapted for the screen by Disney, but times have changed, and the authors decided to rewrite the stories we've known since childhood, offering their heroines a fate that would be impossible in a patriarchal world.
