Classic Japanese fairy tales have been collected by American orientalist William Elliott Griffis.
The tales vividly showcase Japan's unique culture and identity. Each story conceals ancient wisdom that has passed down through the centuries and retained its meaning and significance.
The collection is illustrated with black-and-white and color Japanese paintings, recreated from ancient original sources.
Some tales are being published in Russian for the first time.
