'As soon as the plane landed, instrumental music began to play softly from the speakers. The orchestra was performing The Beatles' 'Norwegian Wood'. And this melody stirred me much more strongly than usual… I thought about the losses in my life: missed time, people who had died and gone, thoughts that had vanished'.

Memories of the extraordinary girl Naoko flooded over Watanabe. What is real Love and how can one learn to trust someone?

'— Will you really never forget me? — she asked quietly, almost in a whisper. — Never, — I answered. — I have no reason to forget you'.

The novel Norwegian Wood brought the author truly worldwide fame. Subtle psychological nuances, music filling the pages, eroticism — all of this is in the novel, which is impossible to put down. The film based on the bestseller competed in the main program of the 67th Venice Film Festival!

Haruki Murakami is a Japanese writer and translator.

He was born in 1949 in Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital, into the family of a teacher of classical philology.

Haruki Murakami’s grandfather, a Buddhist priest, ran a small temple. His father taught Japanese language and literature at school and, in his spare time, also engaged in Buddhist proselytizing. He studied “classical drama” in the Theater Arts Department of Waseda University.

In 1950, the writer’s family moved to the city of Ashiya, a suburb of the port of Kobe (Hyogo Prefecture).
