Morais Zogoiby, nicknamed the Moor, tells a family story, interweaving tales of modern India, where fiction and truth intertwine, but the author's unbridled imagination reigns supreme. The saga of the da Gama-Zogoiby family, of curses and hatred, of mad passion, of criminal inclinations and a craving for beauty, is interspersed with monologues from the protagonist devoted to art, religious fanaticism, national traditions, and, of course, love.
