A Voyage on the North Sea: Art in the Age of Post-Medium Condition (Puteshestvie po Severnomu Moryu)

A short article by leading historian and theorist of contemporary art Rosalind Krauss (b. 1941) on the Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers (1924–1976) presents a paradoxical experiment: while using Broodthaers as an example and, along with him, declaring the end of the medium’s dominance in art and the advent of a post-medial era, the author at the same time finds in the work of her subject a hook for the advancement of a renewed and, perhaps, no less effective than before, concept of the medium.
