Once upon a time there lived a grandparent. The grandmother was interested in art and read books about artists, and the grandfather had painted himself in his youth and knew firsthand how to mix paints. They had a granddaughter, Ema, a high school student, and a grandson, Mikuláš, a nine-year-old tomboy who loved nothing more than kicking a ball around and watching football matches.
One day, Ema was assigned an essay about paintings for the weekend, so the grandparents decided to take her and Mikuláš to a modern art museum—and not just any museum, but a magical one, home to masterpieces from all over the world. By an amazing coincidence, at the same time, the former director of this museum, who knew the value of the treasures stored there like no one else, planned to steal one of them, and while grandparents were telling Ema and Mikuláš about the paintings, robbers crept into the museum.
Thus, the young visitors, without even suspecting it, became witnesses and even participants in a detective story. How it developed, and at the same time how art has developed over the past two centuries, is described in this book, which won the prestigious Magna Litera award for the best children's publication in 2015.
