Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system, a frozen giant named after a Greek deity. Following the German writer and lawyer Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, who developed the concept of Uranism, Paul B. Preciado dreams of an apartment on Uranus, where he will live outside the prevailing normative categories. 'Apartment on Uranus' is a collection of articles published in the French newspaper Libération from 2013 to 2018, a chronicle of a transition—global cultural and political shifts. Preciado writes about current socio-political issues—the rise of neo-fascism in Europe, the criminalization of migrants, reproductive technologies, the role of artists and museums in writing a new social contract—and calls for the unity of all living beings, contrary to the expectations of the norm. Paul B. Preciado is a philosopher, writer, curator, and activist. From 2011 to 2014, he was the Head of Research at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) and Director of the Independent Studies Program (PEI). From 2014 to 2017, he was the curator of public programs at documenta'14. In 2019–2020, he was a visiting philosopher at the Pompidou Center. He lives in Paris.
